Why Atlanta doors break springs the way they do
Atlanta isn't one kind of housing stock โ it's dense intown blocks and new subdivisions side by side, and the spring problems we see reflect that mix.
Run our day and you'll watch it: trucks leave in the morning and work outward from the Downtown Connector toward the Perimeter, hitting tight intown streets in the morning and newer construction on the north side by afternoon. In neighborhoods like Inman Park, Cabbagetown, Kirkwood, and Grant Park, a lot of the garages are decades old, and the original springs that came with the door are simply reaching the end of their lives all at once โ they were never meant to last forever, and many are well past their rated cycles. Closer to Buckhead, Brookhaven, and the newer pockets around West Midtown, we see the opposite case: builder-grade springs on heavy, double-car insulated doors that get cycled hard from day one and wear out faster than the homeowner expects.
Then there's the Atlanta summer. Long stretches of heat and humidity are tough on steel coils โ moisture settles into a closed-up garage, surface rust creeps along the winding, and a spring that was already tired loses the last of its strength. We pull plenty of corroded torsion springs in July and August that finally snapped on an otherwise ordinary morning. None of it is unusual; it's just what happens to springs in this climate and this housing mix. The fix is the same either way: the correct spring, sized to your specific door, installed safely and balanced before we leave.
